This book is amazing! Helen Frost is a master at writing poetry in a rigid structure but using it so effortlessly that the structure is invisible. It serves to make the novel a more powerful, emotional, and resonant story but never distracts from the characters or place. At first glance, this book is a WWI story, but in fact is more about the woman's suffrage movement. This is a story that girls need to know. (Also, see the HBO movie Iron Jawed Angels--a difficult but equally powerful representation of the suffragettes.)
